INSEE has undertaken to gather data from public statistics to produce a synthesis of digital transformations of the economy and society.
This folderis organized around six chapters: overview, new digital practices, digital equipment and uses, the contribution of information technologies, content and media to the economy, digital challenges, and European comparisons.
The Institute provides a picture of the digital equipment of households, the digital uses and skills of people living in France and presents a series of data relating to digital platforms and e-commerce: "Although digital platforms and e-commerce are developing rapidly, they remain a minority in the sectors concerned".
INSEE statisticians and analysts are also looking at employment in Information technology, content and media activities (TCSI): "employment and value added are particularly dynamic in programming services, consulting and other IT activities".
However, as the authors of this report point out, " the digitalization of the economy and society raises a number of questions. Disparities appear according to the profile of individuals, but also according to the territories or the size of companies. Thus, access to the Internet, its use and digital capabilities vary greatly according to generation, and to a lesser extent according to degree or standard of living.
IT tools have ambivalent effects on employment and working conditions (disappearance of certain jobs that are automated, appearance of new jobs, telecommuting, etc.). Infrastructures, equipment and uses, especially the rise of the smartphone and the increase in mobile data traffic, have environmental impacts that are difficult to quantify, but real and growing ".
